Fast and accurate editing

When you receive a document to edit, first check for the validity of the template. Then go over the demographics to see if the patient name and social security number match as per the e-fax. Check for the date formats as specified by the respective clinic in the client specification sheet. Check for other formatting details. Once that has been authenticated, go over the audio and the text simultaneously and thoroughly edit the document for typos, grammar, spelling mistakes, and sound-alike’s, etc. This is the part where your skill comes in to picture.

Fast and accurate editing requires a finely tuned ear for the nuances in accent, the commonly used abbreviations, good knowledge of the names of drugs and their usage, medical acronyms, medical terms used commonly in the medical fraternity, and the ability to decipher the exact meaning of what the physician dictates even under trying situations.

The transcripts are dictated in to the dictaphone usually at the end of the day; sometimes even while commuting back home. You could have sounds of yawning, chewing, coughing, sounds on the underground, etc. You need to extract content from what sometimes sounds like a virtual cacophony!
